This course provides an introduction to psychopharmacology, offering a foundational understanding of how medications are used to treat mental health disorders. Participants will explore the major classes of psychiatric medications, including antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, anxiolytics, and stimulants. The course will cover basic pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, discussing how these medications work in the brain and body. Additionally, students will learn about common side effects, ethical considerations, and the role of mental health professionals in medication management. Through case studies and discussions, participants will gain insights into the relationship between therapy and medication and how psychopharmacology fits into comprehensive mental health care. By the end of the course, students will have a basic understanding of psychiatric medications and their role in treatment.
